Materials and Finishes for Hotel Furniture

Select hotel furniture materials by use, exposure and maintenance

A finish board can align the visual language of a hotel, but the final specification must also respond to touch, cleaning, moisture, impact, replacement and adjacent materials. GEORGE Group can discuss project-configured furniture and material options; the actual product range, construction, sample, test documents and destination requirements are confirmed for the specific project.

This GEORGE Group furniture detail shows how hardware and visible finish meet. Appearance does not identify the substrate, coating, hardware grade or verified performance; those details belong in the project schedule.

Build a material matrix from the room conditions

Questions to record for each material and finish
Material interfaceSelection questions
Wood and wood-look finishesSubstrate, veneer or decorative layer, coating, grain direction, edges, colour range, repair and cleaning
UpholsteryFabric or leather identity, colour batch, backing, seam and cushion construction, cleaning method, replacement and required tests
Metal and hardwareBase metal, visible finish, contact wear, corrosion exposure, operating load, replacement access and compatibility
Stone or solid surfaceNatural variation, slab or sheet layout, edge, joint, support, sealing where applicable, stain exposure and repair
Glass and mirrorType, thickness, edge, backing, safety requirement, fixing, cleaning and replacement route
Mixed-material junctionMovement, contact, visible gap, seal, fastener, service access and party responsible for adjoining work

The same material name can describe different grades, constructions and coatings. Record manufacturer or supplier references where they are fixed and state which alternatives may be evaluated.

Connect every finish to an item, sample and approval status

Give each finish a code and repeat that code on the furniture schedule, drawings, sample label and inspection record. Record colour, sheen, texture, grain or pattern orientation, edge or joint treatment and the approved sample revision. For naturally variable materials, define the range the buyer will review and whether a larger panel, slab layout or batch sample is required.

A coordinated palette does not require every piece to use the same material. Guest rooms, corridors, restaurants, bars and lobby areas have different commercial-use, cleaning and replacement conditions. State those conditions before selecting the surface, and keep high-risk interfaces such as wet cleaning, food and beverage exposure, heat or direct sun visible in the specification.

Request evidence for the actual product and destination

GEORGE Group has certificates at group level. Where a project requires fire, durability, emissions, chemical resistance, safety or other evidence, identify the product or assembly, test method, required threshold, issuing body, date and destination requirement. A certificate for one material or configuration should not be presented as approval for every furniture category.

For a first material review, send the room and item schedules, design palette, target appearance, cleaning products and routines, known moisture or sunlight exposure, replacement expectations, applicable brand or destination requirements and the approval timetable. Mark performance criteria that still need confirmation.
